PARAFED OTAGO

Robert Gillan has been in a wheelchair for over seven years now, since he was injured in a forklift accident back in 2001. Not one to take his disability lying down, he took up basketball and has played competitively for Otago for the past two years (in between further operations). But, as you can imagine, it's not easy getting around a court in a regular wheelchair. Luckily, he had the support of Parafed Otago, whose goal is to help locals with disabilities lead as full and active a life as possible. So when Parafed asked The Lion Foundation to help fund an extra sports wheelchair for the team, we were keen to help. That way, disabled players like Robert can beat their disabilities as well as their competition.
