TE WHAKAPONO HEALTH TRUST

Until recently, Rotorua’s dialysis patients had to drive all the way up to Waikato Hospital for treatment, often several times a week. As John Naere can tell you, it was tough going. He’d drive his father to Hamilton three nights a week, sleep in the car for a couple of hours, then turn around and drive home again by morning. So when John established the Te Whakapono Health Trust to raise money for a
dialysis unit right in the grounds of Rotorua Hospital, we were keen to help. These days the unit treats dozens of patients in the region every year, giving them some comfort and normality to their lives. And where possible, helping them on the road to recovery, not the road to Hamilton.
